The 411 on Sunscreen: Understanding SPF
The Sun Protection Factor, or SPF, stated on sunscreen products refers primarily to their capacity to block UVB radiation. The SPF number indicates how long an individual can stay out in the sun before they will burn.
For example: if you normally burn within 20 minutes, an SPF of 2 would allow you to stay out 40 minutes before burning (20 minutes X SPF 2 = 40 minutes). An SPF 15 would allow you to stay out 300 minutes or 5 hours before burning (20 minutes X SPF 15 = 300 minutes). An SPF 30 would allow you to stay out 600 minutes or 10 hours before burning (20 minutes X SPF 30 = 600 minutes).
For young adults, teens and women with oily skin I recommend a SPF 30 Oil Free or Matte Sunscreen, by Only Yourx.
This sunscreen is suitable for normal to extremely oily skin. It protects against skin-aging UVA/UVB rays with advanced, broad-spectrum sunscreens and powerful antioxidants. This formula is lightweight and water-resistant; it won’t clog pores to help prevent breakouts. It leaves a natural matte finish.
What should you do if you get burned?
Stay out of the sun! Do not expose your skin to any more harmful rays; you need time to heal! Apply a cold compress to the area that is burned. Apply an Aloe Vera lotion or ointment. (Hint: Look for one that is natural and doesn’t have alcohol in it.)
When you skin starts to flake off, let it! Do not pull, rub, pick or encourage your skin to come off prematurely. The skin underneath is young, and may not be ready for the sun. If skin is removed prematurely, you could damage it, cause hyperpigmentation, or brown spots to form.
How to cover up your sunburn?
Use a liquid foundation to try to conceal or cover up your red or burned skin. Use products with ingredients you can trust. The Only Yourx Custom Blended Foundation developed in the US in the 70’s.
