Frequently Asked Questions

When should I get a facial?

It’s never too soon to begin a series of corrective facial treatments!  The earlier services begin, the sooner it will be beautiful and radiant for your wedding day!

How often should I get facials?  Is one enough?

For some clients, one facial will brighten, hydrate and rejuvenate the skin, but for others, regular facials will help to eliminate and heal blemishes, correct hyperpigmentation and dark spots, and restore the skin’s ability to heal itself.  Your skin care specialist will be able to help you determine how often you’ll need to have a facial performed at your consultation, based upon your skin type, condition, needs, and what you are trying to accomplish (ie, maintain skin health, or correct an issue).

What do I do between facials?

After your facial, you will be instructed on proper home care for your skin.  Your skin specialist will show you the recommended products for your skin that will help to maintain the results you are achieving in our treatment room.  Using products that are formulated to prepare the skin for facials, extend the benefit of the facials, and continue skin health will give you the best overall results after treatment.

When should I schedule my waxing services for my wedding?

It will depend on how frequently you already wax.  If you are a regular waxer, you may wish to schedule your waxes the week of your wedding.  However, if you are new to waxing, or it has been more than 2 months since your last wax, you should schedule two waxing appointments two weeks apart, the first one being three weeks from your wedding date.  The reason is that your hair grows in a cycle consisting of the anagen, catogen, and telogen stages.  About 85% of your hair is in the anagen (growth) cycle, where it is taking nourishment from the skin and actively growing.  Approximately 5% of your body hair is in the catogen cycle, where the hair begins to detach and prepare to be shed from the papilla.  5-10% of all hairs are in the telogen phase, which is when the follicle rests and prepares to regrow a new hair.

We are able to get most, but not all of the hair removed in one waxing session due to these cycles.  Many times, a client will experience “prickly hairs” a week or two after the first wax.  This is just the hair that was in another phase of the cycle coming to the service, not a sign of incompetence of a waxing professional.  Coming in for a second wax two weeks after your first service will ensure that the new growth is removed for longer lasting results.  Most clients typically experience the longest-lasting results after their 3rd or 4th consecutive wax, when the hairs have been removed during all phases of the growth cycle, and enjoy hairless-ness for 4 to 8 weeks.

How do I prepare for a wax?

You will need to grow out all hair that you wish to have removed.  It should be 1/4″ long, which is anywhere from 2-4 weeks of growth. Discontinue any use of medications such as Retin-A, Accutane, Benzoyl Peroxide, or any antibiotic that warns you of sun sensitivity.  You will also improve your results if you exfoliate 24 hours before your waxing appointment (but no sooner!).

I’m waxed!  Now what?

Avoid heat for 24 hours after waxing – the skin is more sensitive after a wax.  No hot showers, steam baths, or jacuzzis!  Also be sure to wear your sun protection on the area that has been waxed – that fresh skin is extremely vulnerable to damaging UVA and UVB rays.  Lastly, avoid scented products on the waxed area for 24 hours post wax – no perfumes or scented lotions.
